Someone please review these shows

There are three shows currently on display in Atlanta that I believe deserve critical discourse but will not receive it. I desperately want to read reviews, responses, thoughts, critique or praise of more atlanta art shows, and I'm putting a cry for someone to do so.

BORN's show "Relief" at Beep Beep Gallery is a great example of an artist so caught up in the process, materials and construction, that the majority of the work has forsaken subject altogether. These assemblages are some of the most daring pieces to come from Atlanta's art underground in my recent memory.

At Kavarna, Saint's show "Vishnu" combines effortless illustrative talent with sloppy execution. As usual, the narrative quality and comic style create an appealing universe, but the addition of color makes the story that much more inviting.

John Tindel's "How to Use the Alphabet" at Aurora Coffee in Little Five Points shows that his process is still evolving his execution is as slick as ever. Did I learn anything about using text in artwork? "bar tab art scene" - genius

Please respond to these shows! Post your thoughts anywhere that you have access to (artlanta.blogspot.com is an open access blog perfect for this) and send a link to ThoughtMarker@gmail.com. There are plenty of people making art in Atlanta but hardly anybody talking about it.

Here is the clip from WonderRoot's monthly jumble of video creativity featuring local artist Dosa Kim.

Yana Dimitrova at Kibbee Gallery

Kibbee Gallery is pleased to present "We Collected Stories", a solo exhibition by artist Yana Dimitrova.
Opening reception will be held on April 17, 2009, from 7 to 10 pm.
688 Linwood Avenue (directly behind Fellini's on Ponce)

"We Collected Stories" consists of recent paintings and drawings by Bulgarian born artist Yana Dimitrova. The works tend to change the gallery space and shift its function into that of a history museum. In this installation, Dimitrova uses her personal biography and national narrative to oppose issues of current and past relevance, placed in a new context. With the use of representational painting style, figurative and architectural references are used to convey dreams and memories, while inviting the viewer to connect with the unfamiliar, foreign narrative. Inspiration is her recent family history, which she opposes with imagery from Bulgaria's national heroic past from the late 1700s. Utilizing a rather muted color palette, Dimitrova focuses on re-creating past and memory functioning as such and contradicting in new sets of framework.

Exhibition duration: April 17 – May 8, 2009

Ride MARTA Day

Friday April 17th - Ride MARTA Day.

The purpose of Ride MARTA Day is to bring all concerned Metro Atlanta residents into a community building activity that will boost ridership, expose new riders to useful routes, express solidarity with MARTA workers and regular commuters, and demonstrate that, as the backbone of our city´s transportation system, MARTA must be fairly funded.
